Pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will launch its integrated smart TV Sky Glass in Germany in 2023 rather than this year.
“Sky’s new streaming TV is a great product that we want to launch at the best possible time. We are convinced that Sky Glass will better realise its full potential in Germany in 2023 and have decided to launch the product next year rather than this year. This will allow us to focus on other strategic initiatives, such as our new streaming service Wow,” a Sky Deutschland spokesperson told German industry publication Clap.
The smart TV, which receives the Sky platform via internet streaming (OTT) rather than cable, satellite or IPTV, had been launched in the UK in October 2021. However, the first customers complained about a “distracting flicker” on the screen, which was to be fixed by a software update. Others complained about the cloud recording feature.
It seems that Sky wants to wait with the market launch in Germany until Sky Glass is technically more mature.
