The total revenues of legal OTT services in Russia amounted to R25.9 billion (€417.3 million) in the first half of this year.
According to a report published by TelecomDaily, this was only 5% more than in the same period in 2021 and contrasted with previously strong growth.
In 2021, for instance, the sector grew by 41%. The report points out that following the departure of international services such as Netflix and Megogo from the Russian market – they previously ranked fourth and in the top 10 in revenue terms – income has been redistributed among Russian services.
However, some has also found its way to pirate sites. Significantly, Kinopoisk overtook previously first placed ivi in revenues in H1, while Wink pushed Okko from third to four place.
Kinopoisk in fact almost doubled its share of revenues, from 13% to 23.2%.
At the same time, the share of the ad model of funding OTT services continues to decline, from 16.5% in H1 2021 to 11% in the first half of this year.
Revenue growth is forecast to fall still further in the second half of this year.
