The take-up of OTT services in Russia has fallen significantly since the start of the year, especially for the leading platforms.
Quoting a survey by GfK of 7,500 residents of Russian cities aged 15-65, Cableman reports that in Q2 42% had a subscription, including free and registered for a trial period. This compared to 46% in Q1, while 28% (down from 30%) actually paid for a subscription.
Both ivi and Okko saw significantly falls in their subscriber numbers. In the ivi’s case, they fell from 12% in Q1 to 10.1% in Q2, with paid subscriptions down from 6.7% to 5.9%.
The corresponding figures for Okko were 7.9% to 6.7% and 4.2% to 3.7%.
On the other hand, Kinopoisk retained its leadership both in terms of subscribers (14.7%) and paying subscribers (10.5%) in Q2.
Furthermore, Wink gained at the expense of Okko and Kion saw an increase in subscriber numbers.
