The number of subscribers to Vodafone’s TV services has fallen by 500,000 in the year to June, according to the telco’s half-year financial report.
Vodafone blamed the subscriber erosion of both broadband and TV subscribers in Germany on the new Telecommunications Act, which came into effect in December 2021.
79,000 cable TV subscribers left the company in the quarter.
The cable broadband customer base declined by a further 34,000, and Vodafone also lost 30,000 DSL broadband customers in the quarter.
Half of the company’s cable broadband customers are now able to subscribe to speeds of at least 250Mbps, and Gigabit speeds are available to 24.0 million households across its hybrid fibre cable network.
In Spain, the broadband customer base declined by 30,000 but the TV base remained stable over the quarter
Vodafone said the German market was now “gradually recovering”.
