Andrzej Muras, one of the longest serving and best-known figures in the Polish media industry, has passed away after a serious illness.
A statement published by the Polish Chamber of Electronic Communications (PIKE), says that after a long career at Polish Radio and Television he co-created the Polish cable TV market and helped launched Polska Telewizja Kablowa, which went on to become UPC Polska.
He also co-organised Wizja TV, Poland’s first DTH platform, in 1997, and since 2002 worked continuously at Mediasat, being a member of its board and its national TV channel Tele 5.
Muras was also highly active at PIKE and its predecessor OiGKK.
PIKE’s chairman Jerzy Straszewski said: “A monumental figure of Polish media, a warm colleague and a great authority of our environment, has passed away”.
