The market for pay-TV and paid video-on-demand (VOD) services remains on a growth course in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
In Germany, total revenues increased by 13.1% to €4.7 billion in 2021. They are expected to grow by a further 8.8% to €5.1 billion in 2022, reports the commercial broadcasters’ industry association VAUNET in its publication Pay-TV and Paid-VOD in Germany 2021/2022.
In the entire German-speaking region, pay-TV and paid-VOD revenues reached a total volume of €5.6 billion in 2021 (2020: €4.9 billion), corresponding to a growth of 13.0%. For the current year, VAUNET forecasts a further increase of 8.5% to €6.1 billion.
The number of pay-TV subscribers in Germany rose from 8.0 in the previous year to 8.1 million in 2021. The number of SVOD customers amounted to 19.3 million in Germany at the end of 2021 and will exceed the 20 million mark in the current year, according to the VAUNET forecast.
