Uros Urbanija to head TV Slovenija

July 18, 2022 11.06 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Uros Urbanija has been appointed the director of TV Slovenija, effective July 18.

Preliminary consent to his appointment for a four-year term was given by 17 program councilors at an extraordinary meeting on July 7.

Urbanija was one of the two candidates who met all the conditions for the director of TV Slovenija. He is a journalist and Slovene scholar who has been working in the field of activities related to public media for many years. Part of his career, in which he gained organisational and managerial experience, was also spent at RTV Slovenija. He was appointed to the position in accordance with all regular and legal procedures.

Commenting on the appointment, which he confimed. Andrej Grah Whatmough, general director of RTV Slovenija, said he wants a more stable operation at TV Slovenija.

“Uros Urbanija and I had a long and thorough conversation, on the basis of which I can expect formative and constructive cooperation. The situation at TV Slovenija urgently needs stabilisation in order to be able to provide our viewers with a good programme in the future, and at the same time to prepare an optimal program and production plan for the coming year, which will put the needs and expectations of the payers of the RTV fee first”.

Urbanija added: “I come to RTV Slovenija with great responsibility and awareness of the mission of the public media. TV Slovenija needs programming and financial stability for its development, and the necessary changes take time. The new programme and production plan must be based on a careful evaluation of the current programme scheme and in cooperation with the employees. During my mandate, I will therefore also strive to regulate the internal situation”.

Urbanija replaces Patrik Grebl, who held the position on a temporary basis and returns to being an advisor to the general director for the field of music.
