Netflix’s plans to launch an ad-supported version of its service have reportedly moved a stage closer.
According to Reuters, quoting the WSJ, the company is currently renegotiating agreements with a number of Hollywood Studios including Sony Pictures Television, Universal and Warner Bros.
It adds that in the case of Sony and Paramount Global, it will have to strike deals for older TV shows.
Netflix has said it is still in the first stages of deciding how to launch an ad-supported tier and that everything else at this stage is just speculation.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, Netflix first mooted the idea of introducing advertising following the release of what were disappointing Q1 results in April this year.
