Vodafone has no plans to leave Romania, according to Achilleas Kanaris, the company’s CEO in the country.
Instead, speaking to Ziarul Financiar>, it has started a repositioning plan for its business, which means redesigning the business model.
This involves identifying new sources of growth and, at this stage, changes in the number of employees, effectively shedding less than 5%, or 200, of its workforce.
Kanaris added that the entire programme will take two years. He was also keen to emphasise that Vodafone Romania has not embarked on a massive layoff or restructuring programme, with the correct term being a redesign of the business.
Kanaris added that embarking on this was necessary as the Romanian internet market had reached saturation point and there was a need to move away from providing connectivity to new sources of growth.
When asked about the several long-serving senior managers deciding to leave the company, Kanaris said they had taken advantage of Vodafone Romania’s very comprehensive compensation package and taken the opportunity to restart their careers elsewhere.
