Canal+ is closing its dedicated football channel to concentrate on its main sports channel.
Foot+ was quietly dropped from the EPG on June 15; local media reports its demise only came to light when a puzzled customer called the operator’s technical helpdesk.
It had previously covered matches from Ligue 1, the Premier League, the Dutch Eredivisie and the French women’s first division. The absence of Ligue 1 coverage from Canal’s main sports channels will have aided the decision.
The departure comes as subscribers were notified of a price increase brought about by an increase in the amount of VAT on subscriptions from 10% to 20%. While a 10% rate had been levied at 10%, VOD was charged at 20% VAT.
Canal+ subscribers can take comfort from the coverage of the upcomimg Womens UEFA 2022 competition with 31 matches across Canal+, Canal+ Sport and Canal+ Décalé.
