Rakuten TV launches channels on Plex

June 15, 2022 12.56 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The European VOD platform Rakuten TV has launches 91 linear channels on the global streaming service Plex.

Plex offers 50,000 free titles, movies, live TV shows, sports and music available to stream in over 180 countries.

The Rakuten TV channels, currently distributed on smart TVs, eebsite, iOS app and Android Mobile app, will now be available on the Plex platform in Spain, the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.

The offer will include Rakuten TV thematic film channels, covering various genres, such as drama, romance, thriller, action, comedy, documentaries and family, consisting of titles sourced from top Hollywood and local content partners. Plex will also be carrying FAST channels from internationally well-known brands such as The Guardian and Hola!, as well as Rakuten Stories, home of Rakuten TV’s exclusive series and documentaries.

Rakuten TV, previously known as mainly a Transactional VOD store, has since 2019 entered the AVOD & FAST business. As a result, it has provided users different options of access to entertainment on TVOD, AVOD, FAST or SVOD.

With the launch of 91 linear channels on Plex, the company says it has taken a further step to expand the reach of both users and advertisers, tapping into more households across Europe with a wider distribution.
