Stofa is to cease the sale of set-top boxes and move to a purely app-based approach.
The Danish operator will instead encourage consumers to purchase Apple TV and Chromecast devices.
“The traditional TV box has a hard time matching the modern TV and streaming solutions, and that is why we are now changing strategy, says Sune Holm from Stofa’s parent company Norlys Digital. “We believe that Apple and Google provide the best and most future-proof solutions on the market.”
Stofa has just launched a new app that can be used on the Smart TVs that run Android TVs, such as Sony and Phillips. In addition, they are also working on launching other apps targeted at Smart TVs, e.g. Samsung TV.
“We want to have apps for all the most popular platforms to make it both easy and intuitive to use our solutions. We are constantly looking at how we can make it even easier to be a customer with us,” adds Holm.
OIder versions of the existing Stofa box will be phased out over the next year.
