Chris Dziadul Reports: Countdown to NEM

June 3, 2022 10.16 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Central and Eastern Europe’s leading TV industry event will take place in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik on June 6-9.

My company Broadband TV News has supported New Europe Market (NEM) for many years and will again be in attendance, moderating a panel discussion on FTA’s key role in a crisis. And there will certainly be much to discuss, with coverage of the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine among the topics to be covered.

Now that a full agenda is available, we can perhaps look forward to what will be some of the highlights of NEM 2022. The event will start off on Monday evening with the ZDF Studios Night, featuring, amongst others, a Q&A on the TV series Boundless.

Tuesday will be the first full day, with the highlights including a TV Tech Showcase and ‘View from the Top in the TV industry’ panel discussion. The latter will be moderated by Kasia Madera, the BBC World News presenter, and include leading executives from Eutelsat, Pro Plus and M7 Group.

Tuesday will also feature panel discussions on global content, European co-productions and new legislative developments in Croatia, ending with a ‘Beta Night’ including a screening of the TV series Cardamom Coffee.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, aside from the panel discussion moderated by Broadband TV News, there will be panels on pay-TV (global trends v CEE trends), FTAs reaching a mass audience, and customer attention. Significantly, the day will end with a showcase, screenings and party organised by Telekom Srbija.

Also worth mentioning are the presentations that will take place during the market from – amongst others – Zattoo and SPI International/FilmBox, along with Q&As with Freemantle International and BBC Studios.

NEM 2022 will be one of the largest live TV markets in Europe since the pandemic began to subside and will hopefully herald the start of a new and positive era for the industry in CEE.

Further details on NEM and how to attend can be found here.
