Digi denies illegal activity

May 25, 2022 11.28 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Romania’s leading pay-TV operator RCS&RDS, which is owned by Netherlands-registered Digi Communications, has rejected recent allegations in the media and parliamentary debates of wrongdoing in business conduct.

In a statement it said: “The company operates in accordance with applicable laws, applicable regulations and acts with integrity, mastering the highest principles of business ethics and responsibility.

“We respect the Romanian state and its institutions. We have been involved and responded to whenever requested and have always ensured the transparency of our business to our employees, customers, business partners, investors and regulators.

“We offer any answers and information that are required of us in the legal framework, and, like any taxpayer in the Romanian economy, we reserve the right to defend our business from any unjustified, defamatory or slanderous attack, using all legal means at our disposal.

“Therefore, we will take all necessary steps, in accordance with the law, to protect our employees, customers, business partners, investors and to defend our operations within a legal framework. RCS&RDS is part of the Digi group, a group with majority Romanian private capital and which, through the parent company Digi Communications N.V., is the only electronic communications operator in Romania listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

“The company has been present in Romania for over 28 years and brings, on one of the most competitive and demanding markets, advanced fixed and mobile telecommunications services, as well as state-of-the-art technology, which have greatly contributed to the development and evolution of the IT&C sector.

“Digi Group’s investments in Romania have exceeded €2 billion in the last 10 years, of which €300 million was in 2021. We have allocated significant funds for the development of a high-performance electronic communications network and for the provision of high-quality audiovisual program services. for the benefit of millions of users who have chosen us.

“Thus, we have focused all our efforts in these years to offer our subscribers a high-quality service, the highest speeds in the world on the fixed internet, but also the most advantageous prices, adapted to the purchasing power in Romania. The investments made by RCS&RDS have significantly contributed to the development of fiber optic networks and have positioned Romania in the top of the countries with the highest speeds on broadband internet”.

“The company is also one of the largest employers in Romania, but also an important taxpayer, which has transferred, in the last ten years, at group level, over €1.3 billion to the state budget”.
