Austrian music TV channel gotv will shut down on June 1, 2022 after 20 years.
“It’s no longer viable. The fixed costs exceed the revenues,” said founder and managing director Thomas Madersbacher, according to a report by Austrian newspaper Der Standard. “The future perspective for linear music television for a young target audience is no longer sufficiently given.”
Gotv launched on October 1, 2002, broadcasting via cable, the Astra satellite system (19.2° East), domestic TV platform simpliTV and the web.
“Our company will continue to exist for productions. But we have decided with a heavy heart to stop broadcasting,” said Madersbacher.
