ORS selects 3SS and Skyworth for Android TV 4K service

May 5, 2022 14.37 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

ORS, the technical services subsidiary of Austrian public broadcaster ORF, has selected German software solutions provider 3SS and Chinese hardware manufacturer Skyworth Digital for next-gen set-top boxes.

The 4K Android TV boxes, enabling reception of hybrid Austrian DTH satellite and DTT platform simpliTV, offer an advanced viewer-centric user experience created by 3SS. The Skyworth 4K hybrid Android TV satellite box is now available to simpliTV customers, complementing the Skyworth 4K hybrid DTT box introduced in January 2022.

Both boxes offer simpliTV subscribers the latest features in 4K DVB and OTT viewing, including Google Play Store apps and Dolby surround sound.

With ORS’ commitment to satisfy the needs of the widest possible audience, traditional TV viewers and streaming fans alike, live TV is at the heart of simpliTV, with over 100 channels. The first screen to appear is the TV player, enabling instant access to live broadcasts. Additionally, with one press of the remote control’s left and right direction buttons, the user can navigate either to Content Discovery, or to the TV Guide where streaming options can be explored.

Live TV, PVR, time-shift, restart, catch-up and recording functionalities are all available, plus backward EPG, mini-EPG and ‘Continue Watching’ even when switching devices and content sources.
