Peacock announces new content, new tech

May 3, 2022 10.55 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Comcast’s streaming service Peacock has now passed the 28 million account mark.

In a presentation in New York, Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer President Kelly Campbell said this was equivalent to 60 million monthly users. Ms Campbell had praise for the ‘brand-defining’ reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

“As our fastest-growing and most-streamed original series ever … more than 8M accounts have watched so far … Bel-Air is having a profound impact on Peacock.”

The ad supported streaming service is available in the United States, with a version also carried in Europe’s Sky markets.

Peacock showcased the latest UX enhancements: left hand navigation, an updated browse experience, and a new feature called Key Plays – that allows Premier League fans instant access to highlights.
Campbell announced three original films co-created with Universal Pictures coming to Peacock in 2023 – Praise This, starring Chloe Bailey, Shooting Stars from Lebron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Company and The Killer from director John Woo.

Peacock has also closed a multi-year output deal for all theatrically released Lionsgate films beginning with the studio’s 2022 slate. The first film to be seen on the Pay 2 window in 2024 will be The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, starring Nicolas Cage with other titles including John Wick: Chapter 4 with Kenau Reeves and Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta which just premiered on Sunday on cable channel Bravo is now an exclusive to Bravo and Peacock, more evidence of streamers keeping their content in house whenever possible, and comes ahead of a previously announced September timeline. The switch is part of a transfer of content from domestic service Hulu to Peacock.
