The Lithuanian regulator LRTK has banned the retransmission of 32 TV channels operated by Russia’s Gazprom-Media.
In a statement, it says Gazprom-Media is owned by Gazprombank, which has been the subject of restrictive financial measures adopted by the US’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Therefore, TV or internet distributors operating in Lithuania run a direct or indirect risk of violating OFAC’s sanctions if they retransmit Gazprom-Media’s channels.
Furthermore, LRTK considers their retransmission to not be in the national security interests of Lithuania.
The 32 banned TV channels include NTV Mir, Pyatnitsa, TV3, TNT and Zee TV.
