ORF adds radio and streaming service to HbbTV portal

April 12, 2022 22.53 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

Austrian public broadcaster ORF has expanded its HbbTV portal ORF Smart with new services.

Live-streams as well as programme information and playlists from ORF’s radio stations Ö3 (including studio cam, news and traffic information) and FM4 are now available on smart TVs, along with live and on-demand content from myfidelio, the ORF-backed streaming service for fans of classical music.

So far, the audience has already been able to access the news offer of news.ORF.at and sport.ORF.at, multimedia weather information/maps/cameras/satellite photos, catch-up service ORF-TVthek (including restart function for selected programmes), Flimmit, Ö1 live (selected productions in Dolby Digital 5.1) and the ORF teletext on ORF Smart.

“The HbbTV service ORF Smart is an important platform within the framework of our digitisation and multimedia strategy with a large variety of text, video and audio content. With Ö3, FM4 and myfidelio, the portfolio for smart TVs is now significantly expanded,” said Dr Harald Kräuter, ORF Director of Technology and Digitisation.

ORF Radio Director Ingrid Thurnher added: “We want to offer our listeners state-of-the-art media consumption and a compelling user experience. Therefore, it is essential to guarantee the accessibility of our content on as many platforms as possible. It is gratifying that – in addition to Ö1 – Ö3 and FM4, and thus all nationwide ORF radio stations, are now available on multimedia HbbTV portal ORF Smart.”
