TV revenues in Spain for both FTA and pay services in 2021 were similar to those a year earlier.
According to the regulator CNMC, the two main media groups Mediaset and Atresmedia together accounted for 82.3% of TV ad revenues in Q4. If only FTA services were considered, this rose to 87.8%.
In Q4, the number of subscribers to pay-TV and VOD platforms stood at 8.3 million, or 41,000 fewer compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 0.8% compared to the Q4 2020. IPTV was the most used technology (almost 5 million) and average TV viewing per day stood at 3 hours and 10 minutes, or 23 minutes less than in the same period in 2020.
DTT consumption continued below 75% (74.3%), compared to the increase in cable TV and IP TV services (24.6%). This redistribution was due to an increase in pay-TV subscriptions through fibre networks.
