Sky Broadband launches fastest-ever package

April 6, 2022 09.00 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Sky Broadband has launched a new full-fibre broadband package with speeds of 900 Mb/s for both new and existing customers.

Gigafast, which is priced at £55 per month for 18 months, also comes with a speed guarantee of 600 Mb/s.

The new package, which is only delivered where fibre-to-the-premises is available is 25 times faster than the average speed of Sky’s Superfast 35 package.

“With about 65% of households using WiFi for streaming, amongst other things, it’s incredibly important for them to get a great connection. And Gigafast will be able to support that and support up to about 120 devices at the same time,” said Aman Bhatti, Director of Propositions, Sky Broadband in a Broadband TV News interview.

Gigafast, which relies in part on the BT Openreach platform, will be available to 20% of UK households at launch, rising to 95% (26 million households) by 2023.

Bhatti says Sky Broadband can differentiate itself from other suppliers on the Openreach network. “We’re very competitive on price. The second thing is our guarantee is super strong. If you look at our guarantee, but there’s others in the market, you will see that we’re very much in the leading pack on that front. And then if you think about our customer service and what we provide our customers in terms of experience, we’re the lowest and least complained about service provider in the UK.”

Customers will receive the latest Hub 4, which supports 120 devices, and maintains the ‘Sky Broadband guarantee’ where customers pay £5 extra a month in return for the promise their broadband will reach right the way across the house.

“120 is definitely a high ceiling and we’re aiming Gigafast at households that are busier than average that need that faster speed and extra capacity. You’d be surprised how quickly you can rack up the numbers in today’s world with all of the devices that we have. It’s not just our laptops and phones, it’s our Ring doorbells, it’s our other smart devices, whether it’s fridges and washing machines, but also consoles and phones and watches and all of those connected WiFi these days.”

Gigafast joins the Sky Broadband family with a range of fibre packages, including Superfast 35 – average download speeds of 36 Mb/s and Ultrafast Plus with average download speeds of 500 Mb/s.
