Zattoo publishes DACH streaming report

March 25, 2022 12.30 Europe/London By Julian Clover

The internet has become the most-used method of TV viewing among those who have a connection.

In its annual report on the streaming habits within the DACH region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Zattoo finds the usage of live TV over the internet continuing to grow with 40% of Internet users in Germany now using the internet exclusively or in addition to another TV reception channel to watch television.

Streaming services run by the country’s leading broadcasters are used by 49% of online users in Germany, down 1% on 2020. The most-used platforms are ARD (79%) and ZDF (77%), which have seen further growth compared to the previous year.

Subscription services increased 2% to 34% with Disney growing by 8 percentage points. The House of Mouse secured 39 percent of SVOD users.

In Switzerland, the internet remains the most used TV reception method and time-shifted TV is the biggest advantage of TV streaming services for Swiss internet users this year.

Meanwhile, every third Austrian Internet user receives television via the Internet, which is gaining fast on satellite reception.

The report is based on an online representative survey conducted by the market research company Kantar on behalf of Zattoo which involved 1,000 German, 1,000 Austrian and 800 Swiss internet users between the ages of 16 and 69 in an online panel at the beginning of 2022.
