Sky Deutschland adds Ultra HD to Sky Q IP box

March 24, 2022 10.26 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

The Sky Q IP box, which Sky Deutschland customers can use to watch TV over the internet without cable TV or DTH satellite reception, is now also suitable for Ultra HD content (UHD).

The upgrade enables UHD streaming initially on premium apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and RTL+.

In addition, customers can now also access selected programmes in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio quality.

The Sky Q IP box, which was launched in August 2021, provides access to Sky Deutschland’s pay-TV platform and over 80 TV channels, including channels from ARD, ZDF, RTL and ProSiebenSat.1, as well as the channels’ catch-up services, and a selection of apps.

With the inclusion of UHD content, which was not ruled out at the time of launch, Sky Deutschland says it is responding to customer demand.

[UPDATE] In another expansion of the Sky Q platform, the MagentaSport app was added to the app line-up today, a Sky Deutschland spokesman confirmed to Broadband TV News. This was part of an extended partnership agreement beteween Sky Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom announced in September 2021.
