Strong 2021 for Gazprom-Media

March 21, 2022 10.52 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Gazprom-Media’s revenues grew by 22% and reached R121 billion (€1.02 billion) in 2021.

This, according to the Russian holding, was thanks to an increase in ad revenues and revenues from the sale of audio video playback rights.

Meanwhile, Gazprom-Media’s net profit in 2021 was over R3 billion, compared to a net loss of R5.5 billion in the previous year, and its operating profit R3.1 billion.

Ad revenues amounted to R90.7 billion, which was 25% more than a year earlier. Growth outpaced the pace of the entire Russian advertising market, which, according to the Association of Communication Agencies of Russia (AKAR), increased by 22% in 2021.

A significant contribution to the holding’s ad revenue was made by Gazprom-Media’s terrestrial channels, the thematic TV channels of Red Media and the sports channels of GPM Match. In particular, the successful launch of premieres and projects on the holding’s TV channels at the end of the third quarter had an impact. The dynamics were also positively affected by a two-fold increase in revenues from the sale of advertising in the digital environment.

Revenues from the sale of rights to audio-video playback grew by 25% and reached R16.8 billion. Growth was provided by income from the distribution of thematic channels and content in the digital environment. It was also helped by the partial restoration of film distribution, which was limited in 2020 due to the pandemic.
