The European Commission has approved the sale of UPC Polska by Liberty Global to P4, which is part of France’s Iliad Group.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, an agreement for the transaction, worth PLN7 billion (€1.52 billion), was signed last September. Approval by the EC, which said that the transaction did not raise any competition concerns, is a key prerequisite for the agreement to be finalised on the estimated date of April 1.
Commenting on the development, Jean Marc Harion, president of the management board of P4, said: “The positive decision of the European Commission gives the green light to finalise the transaction and create a completely new quality thanks to the combination of the best mobile, fixed and television services on the Polish telecommunications market. We focus on preparing the integration of Play and UPC and we look forward to working with the UPC team. In these difficult and uncertain times, Play and the UPC have already shown that they are joining forces to support the citizens of Ukraine. And soon we will use the potential of both organizations to achieve our strategic goal, which is to create a strong convergent operator in Poland”.
