Occupying Russian forces in the Ukrainian city of Kherson have removed Ukrainian TV channels from the DTT multiplex.
As Russian tanks entered the Black Sea port, a local radio amateur reported that the local DVB-T2 mux had seen all of its Ukrainian channels replaced with Russian ones. While internet services have been cut, the move to replace the Ukrainian channels rather than just switching it off suggests a certain amount of expertise.
The Ministry of Defence said Monday that Russia is probably targeting Ukraine’s communications infrastructure in order to reduce Ukrainian citizens’ access to reliable news and information.
A TV tower was reportedly struck in Kharkiv yesterday, suspending broadcasting output. It follows a similar strike on a TV tower in Kyiv on March 1.
Over the past week, internet outages have also been reported in Mariupol, Sumy, Kyiv and Kharkiv.
