YouView will remain a part of the UK’s television landscape until at least 2024.
It follows a new shareholder agreement between broadcasters BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and ISPs BT and TalkTalk.
The agreement sets out the governance and funding arrangements for YouView. Its software underpins the TV offering for both of the telcos and some Sony TVs.
The BBC and ITV will each contribute £750,000 to the project each year. YouView delivers their on demand services BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub as well as other channel partners.
Originally established as a means for the broadcasters to have their own platform available in the free-TV space, competition concerns brought in the telcos, with the broadcasters later establishing Freeview Play to achieve their goals.
Last year, transmission company Arqiva withdrew from both YouView and Freeview.
