Allente launches cross-platform Android TV service

February 22, 2022 12.33 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Nordic pay-TV platform Allente has launched a new cross-platform aggregated TV service using a set-top box for satellite, IPTV and OTT reception.

Versions of the Kaonmedia BCM72180 PVR will be made available to the platforms one million subscribers. The box has been enabled by KAON middleware, Nagra Media CAS, Broadcom 72180 SoC and based on 3SS UX (user experience) technology. The service will have a phased rollout throughout the Nordic region in 2022, starting with Sweden. PVR functionality will be rolled out later this year.

New pre-certified capabilities have been enabled on the Android TV software stack including the Custom Over the Air Update.

The integration was completed in just six months thanks to close collaboration between Allente, KAONMEDIA, NAGRA, Broadcom, 3SS and Google.

“We’re very excited to now offer our next-generation service to subscribers via satellite, IPTV and OTT streaming,” said Jon Espen Nergård, CTO, Allente. “We thank our amazing partners KAON and 3SS, and all our technology collaborators, in helping us provide our customers with a rich array of content, including their favourite apps, all wrapped in a world-class 3SS-enabled experience and delivered on KAON’s powerful STB,” he added.

Allente’s new hybrid KAON STB delivers high performance, with proven next-gen 3SS-engineered customer experience. “We congratulate Allente for going live with its next-gen TV offering, which is bringing a truly advanced service, abundant with top entertainment, to viewers across the Nordic region,” commented Tom Buhl, KAON Media Executive Vice President.

“In making its super-aggregated service available to consumers in so many ways, Allente is yet again demonstrating its abiding commitment to providing a superior entertainment experience to all subscribers, on satellite, OTT and IPTV,” adds Kai-Christian Borchers, Managing Director of 3SS. “Allente is at the vanguard of technological innovation and customer focus, and we are extremely proud of our long and ongoing partnership.”

This project was delivered in adherence with modern principles of agile development, first introduced to Canal Digital by 3SS, featuring “SAFe” (Scaled Agile Framework), the practical experience-based software development framework. SAFe brings all stakeholders in a project together, both in-house and partners.
