The Spanish pay-TV revenues amounted to €487.7 million in the third quarter of 2021, down from €526.1 million in the same period a year earlier.
At the same time, according to the regulator CNMC, FTA TV revenues rose from €310.9 million to €318.5 million over the same period, having peaked at €500.6 million in Q4 2020. The two main media groups Mediaset and Atresmedia together accounted for 80.2% of TV ad revenue in Q3 2021, or 88.4% if only FTA services were taken into account.
CNMC notes that the number of pay-TV subscribers stabilised in Q3 2021, growing by 46,000. The total number of pay-TV and VOD subscribers in the quarter stood at 8.3 million, with IPTV accounting for almost 5 million.
DTT accounted for 75% (74.6%) of viewing, compared to 24% for cable TV and IPTV services.
