Disney+ has carried out its first-ever test of a live streaming capability, suggesting live content is on the slate for subscribers.
The company ran a live stream of the Oscar nominations event, carried simultaneously by sister service Hulu, as alongside the ABC News Live streaming service and additional streams from Academy Awards partners.
“We performed a test for live streaming capabilities on Disney+ in the U.S. with this morning’s Academy Award nominations. We are pleased with the results and will continue to test as part of our ongoing and iterative approach to deliver the best user experiences to consumers,” a Disney spokesperson told TechCrunch, which first reported the story.
Live streaming is of course far from a first for Disney as a whole, which runs multiple streaming platforms. There’s live TV on Hulu, as well as ESPN+, while in India Disney+ Hotstar runs a live stream of international cricket.
Further tests are anticipated.
