Canal Plus has become the latest operator to take advantage of new French legislation designed to combat online piracy.
The pay-TV platform has obtained an injunction blocking 13 pirate sites that have been illegally streaming Canal’s coverage of the Top 14 rugby union competition.
Last Friday, a Paris court ordered several internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to the sites under the recently enacted law.
Canal can notify Arcom – the new super regulator created through the merger of HADOPI and the CSA of any new site that begins illegal retransmission of the championship.
Earlier in the week, beIN Sports became the first broadcaster to obtain a French court order against the illegal distribution of its content.
