Israel’s Communications Ministry is refusing to sign off the sale of Spacecom to Hungary’s 4iG.
According to The Jerusalem Post, concerns have been raised by the Israeli security agency Shin Bet about a foreign company controlling Spacecom’s Amos satellites, which are also used by Israel’s security services.
The largest 4iG shareholders are also believed to have close ties to Hungary’s President Victor Orban.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, Hungaro DigiTel (HDT), a joint subsidiary of 4iG and Antenna Hungária, has entered into a final agreement with Spacecom last October to acquire a 51% stake in the company.
The successful completion of the transaction, which is worth $68 million, was then left in the hands of the general assembly of Spacecom and Israel’s Communication Ministry.
