YouTube has announced its closing the YouTube Originals division after six years.
Headed by industry veteran Susanne Daniels, YouTube Originals were behind shows including Scare PewDiePie and Cobra Kai.
In a message to content creators posted on Twitter, YouTube Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl said the Google-owned company’s investment in content had more impact through other initiatives such as the Creator Shorts Fund and Black Voices Fund.
This had combined with a separate decision by Daniels to step down.
Kynci said YouTube would honour its commitment to contracted shows already in progress.
However, its early successes came from established producers, such as Scare PewDiePie, created by the team behind The Walking Dead.
