Skylink making its own productions

January 14, 2022 09.34 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

M7 Group’s Skylink will start showing its own productions from this year.

The DTH and internet TV provider, which has over 1.5 million subscribers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, introduced a new programming structure for its proprietary channel Skylink 7 in 2021. A significant amount of its schedule consists of original titles from StudioCanal and Canal+, as well as mostly European programmes. The channel is available for 24 hours daily to Skylink customers and can also be watched on Skylink Live TV.

However, since last year Skylink has also been actively involved in the development and production of its own content. According to Jaromir Glisnik, member of the board at M7 Group, “by joining the Canal+ Group, we have gained access to exclusive premium content from the production companies StudioCanal, Canal+ or Kino Swiat. Our next logical step is to also participate directly in the production and thus offer our viewers not only acquisitions but also original production and co-production projects arising under the Canal+ Group”.

The first project which Skylink will release is Planet Single: Eight Stories, a romantic series co-produced with Canal+ Polska. It will premiere on February 7 on Skylink 7.

Ladislav Rehacek, M7 Group’s country manager for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, said: “this is a unique series, both in its concept and format, which was created under the direction of the eight most prominent Polish directors of today. It is also a pilot co-production project by Canal+ Polska and M7 Group. I am very pleased that we have started cooperation with our Polish colleagues, on which we can build in the future.

“Of course, we are still looking for interesting ideas for series that would be especially suitable for co-production with other countries where Canal+ Group operates”.
