Telefónica is negotiating with DAZN in order to secure access to the 45% of LaLiga matches it does not hold rights to.
According to El Economista, the rights, which start from next season, were awarded last December. It adds that although the talks are unlikely to finish this month, if successful they will have to be concluded before June.
Telefónica and DAZN were awarded the rights for the next five seasons (2022-2027) for a total of €4.950 billion. Since then, the Spanish telco told the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) that it would take any necessary measures to ensures its customers are offered complete coverage of LaLiga.
El Economista notes that Orange is also interested in holding talks with DAZN in order to offer its subscribers LaLiga from next season.
