French VOD service Salto has failed to achieve its goal of one million subscribers by the end of 2021.
The alliance of TF1, M6 and France Télévisions wanted to create a Francophone riposte to international services Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. It is believed to have 300,000 subscribers.
According to the magazine Capital, the proportion of exclusive content on the channel is also relatively low and represent just 1.7% of the catalogue or 255 hours.
There is also concern that support for Salto among its shareholders may be waning. Last December France Télévisions boss Delphine Ernotte indicated she was ready to leave the alliance, while TF1 is developing TF1 Max, its own pay platform, with dedicated content.
A subscription to Salto costs €6.99 a month.
