Both the Slovak public broadcaster RTVS and national commercial station Markiza are planning to add another channel to their portfolios.
Speaking to Dennik N and quoted by Zive, RTVS’s general director Jaroslav Reznik said that its fifth channel – the fourth, sports-based service made its debut last month – could be launched in autumn 2023, if not sooner.
Zive adds that the channel could be news-based and that much depends on Reznik’s re-election, with his current term in office due to expire in July 2022.
Meanwhile, Markiza, which is owned by PPF Group, is planning to launch a fourth channel to add to its existing services, the flagship Markiza and Doma and Dajto, focused on female and male viewers respectively.
According to Zive, there is a great demand of advertising in Slovakia which existing stations cannot satisfy.
