Netflix is to publish a new weekly list of its Top 10 films and TV series.
The streamer has broken down the list into global Top 10 lists for Films (English), TV (English), Films (non-English) and TV (non-English), as well as rankings for over 90 countries.
The weekly lists will run from Monday to Sunday each week and will be published the following Tuesday.
Their publication follows a conference session in September when Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed the first details of which of the streamer’s shows were the most popular.
However, rather than the traditional metric of how large an audience each show has, Netflix has gone for hours viewed
The action-comedy Red Notice tops the list of the most popular English language films for the week ending November 8th on 148,720,000 hours viewed, followed by the Christmas movie Love Hard (58,560,000) and western The Harder they Fall (33,060,000). The 10th most popular film, Jumanji: The Next Level, received 6,760,000 hours viewed.
Season 3 of Narcos heads the list of TV shows with 50,290,000 hours viewed, followed by Arcane (34,170,000) and You (33,720,000). The dystopian drama Squid Game is Korean, so heads the non-English list, recording 42,790,000 after 9 weeks in the Top 10.
The list of series produces another query, TV is listed in whole seasons, rather than single episodes, making it occasionally difficult to see if a show is maintaining its initial momentum. The lists are based on the total hours viewed in a title’s first 28 days on Netflix.
The independent accounting firm has agreed to audit the figures. The first such report will appear in 2022.
