Switzerland has given its approval to the Principality of Monaco’s application to join the TV5 Monde television network.
The Federal Council gave the green light Wednesday for Monaco to become a new partner state in the network that brings together French-language content from France, Belgium, Canada, and Switzerland.
The Council has now instructed the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) to sign the revised TV5 Monde charter and an agreement regulating the accession modalities for the Principality on behalf of Switzerland.
Monaco’s admission to the TV5 Monde television network will be confirmed as soon as all member states have signed the new charter as well as the agreement with the Principality of Monaco on the accession process.
Monaco has previously been without a public service broadcaster, but a news focussed channel is currently under development. It’s anticipated Monte-Carlo Riviera will be able to contribute from the second half of 2022.
TV5 Monde is received by 353 million households worldwide.
