Viaplay coasts towards international subscriber target

October 26, 2021 12.31 Europe/London By Julian Clover

NENT’s Viaplay says it’s on track to reach 500,000 international subscribers by the end of 2021.

The streaming service debuted in Poland earlier this year and added 36,000 Nordic subscribers and 286,000 international subscribers during the third quarter.

NENT achieved sales of SEK 3,054 million, an increase of 9.9%.

“Q3 was another important step on the path towards our 5-year goals as the international streaming challenger,” said Anders Jensen, President & CEO. “We are well on track to our year-end target of adding at least 400k Nordic subscribers and 500k international subscribers in 2021.”

At NENT’s recent Capital Markets Day it was announced that Viaplay will launch in 5 new markets by the end of 2023, taking the total to 16, and with the aim of having 12m total subscribers by the end of 2025. A US launch will focus on Nordic-originated content.

The company is confident of reaching 400,000 Nordic subscribers and 500,000 international subscribers in 2021.

Streaming to Viaplay increased by 38% year-on-year with Bundesliga, English Premier League, UEFA competitions and Formula One all contributing. It’s anticipated there will be 50 Viaplay Originals by the end of this year and 60 released in 2022.
