Discovery has sublicensed the rights to the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing to the Polish public broadcaster TVP.
The move, which was confirmed by TVN Discovery’s press office to the local industry publications Wirtualne Media and press.pl, is in accordance with the Broadcasting Act.
This requires that Olympic Games in which there is Polish participation must be shown on FTA television.
Discovery has full rights to the Winter Olympics and will show the games on Eurosport 1 and player.pl.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, TVP complained last week that “despite many months of negotiations, the Discovery group decided not to sub-license TVP the rights to broadcast ski jumping, depriving the public broadcaster of most competitions in one of the most important sports disciplines, and socially – to an event uniting millions of Poles”.
