Saudi Arabia to lift ban on beIN Sports

October 7, 2021 12.15 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The ban on beIN Sports by Saudi Arabia will soon be ended.

According to a statement from beIN Media Group, published by Reuters, “We have been informed that Saudi Arabia’s 4.5-year illegal ban on beIN Sports is going to be reversed soon”.

Although beIN holds the rights to the Premier League for the Middle East, its channels were suspended by Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Competition (GAC) in 2017 and its licence revoked last year.

The lifting if the ban could pave the way for the take-over of the Premier League club Newcastle United by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which would provide 80% of the funds for the £300 million sale.

PIF is seen as separate to the Saudi state, which has been accused of human rights abuses.

The Premier League could approve the sale as soon as today (October 7).

White Paper: Why Wi-Fi 7 is critical for ISPs in the gigabit+ era

Today, consumers are increasingly using bandwidth-intensive and latency-sensitive workloads, such as 4K and 8K streaming, online gaming, and AR/VR applications.
