Telefónica is looking into the possibility of selling a stake in its fixed FTTH connections in Spain.
This, according to El Economista, quoting a report by Bloomberg, would allow it to obtain new extraordinary income to be used in new business opportunities, such as the acquisition of a company in sectors or markets with special potential.
However, no transaction is likely to take place in the near future, with negotiations with potential buyers likely to last until at least 2022.
Telefónica’s FTTH assets in Spain could be worth some €15 billion.
The report notes that Telefónica may seek to replicate the model it has employed in Germany and Brazil, where it shares its fixed assets.
In the case of Germany, this is with Allianz on a 50/50 basis.
