French media regulator CSA is launching a public consultation on the future development of interactive services over digital terrestrial television, known locally as TNT.
This includes content delivered via the Red Button and video-on-demand, though not catch up services.
Operators running on the DTT platform run on the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) protocol.
The consultation follows authorisations issued by the authority earlier this year and is open to all.
As of the second half of 2020, the DTT platform is used by 52.5% of TV households. The number of households equipped with an HbbTV-compatible television set is 16% (4 million households). The number of households equipped with an HbbTV set connected to the Internet and connected to DTT is 7%. The total number of HbbTV-enabled TV sets is 4.6 million, according to estimates by the Alliance Française des Industries du Numérique (AFNUM).
