Apple has upgraded the middleware for its Apple TV platform, offering improved audio and security features.
The update was premiered at Apple’s WWDC developer event in June and is being made available on the updated Apple TV 4K and earlier Apple TV HD boxes.
Users with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max will be able to experience the new Spacial Audio, that uses gyroscopes and other sensors in the headphones to simulate 3D listening. A new dialogue box, similar to that seen on the Apple iPhone appears if the Apple TV senses an Apple TV is nearby.
iOS devices can now also be used to sign into Apple TV through Touch ID or Face ID.
Additional HomeKit features mean its now possible to see HomeKit-compatible security cameras in a grid view.
Those with a HomePod mini will now be able to pair the device with AppleTV, meaning it will be possible to as the Siri voice command to play a particular show or streaming service.
However, the promised SharePlay feature that allows users to share media with others during a Facetime call – allowing users to listen or view content simultaneously will now appear at a later date.
