Russia’s Orion inks smart TV partnership

September 17, 2021 10.35 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Russian media platform Orion and IT company SberDevices have entered into a partnership agreement aimed at increasing the availability of the latest TV viewing technologies for a wide range of Russian consumers.

In a statement, Orion says that as one of the leaders in the country’s pay-TV market, it has extensive experience and potential in the field of selling custom equipment through its partner network. The subscriber base of the DTH platform Telekarta numbers more than 3 million households, and the partner network unites more than 4,000 companies-installers of TV equipment throughout the country. Meanwhile, SberDevices specialises in solutions based on AI, creates devices and software with integrated virtual assistants Salute, including expanding the capabilities of TVs and providing opportunities for TV viewing.

It adds that as part of the agreement, the parties have agreed on a number of joint steps aimed at spreading smart TV viewing technologies in Russia. These include using Orion’s partner network to sell Sber devices, including through a subscription mode; and carrying out presetting on TVs running Salyut TV OS, which enables users to search for available channels of the Orion broadcasting grid without manually entering satellite parameters.

The first joint clients of SberDevices and Orion are expected to appear in mid-October with the sale of a trial batch of SberBox smart media set-top boxes through the Orion dealer network. Their implementation will begin in September.
