Vodafone has announced plans to lay off up to 515 employees in Spain, mainly from the commercial side of its business.
In a statement, the company says that it has summoned them to start a consultation period, which will start at the end of September and last a month. It adds that “the decision to initiate this procedure is justified for economic, productive and organisational reasons, and is encouraged by the market trend in the telecommunications sector and by the need to improve operational performance by accelerating digital transformation strategy”.
Vodafone notes that in recent years, the intensity of competition in prices and the drift towards low-value rates in Spain has caused a sharp drop in revenues and a significant deterioration in margins. In this context, Vodafone Spain started its repositioning programme.
“This organisational restructuring represents another step in the company’s transformation process to adapt to the market environment, with the aim of turning Vodafone into a more digital, agile and better-prepared company to compete”.
It concludes by saying that the process began with the announcement in May of the Vodafone Group’s largest R&D Centre of Excellence, located in Malaga, which will have more than 600 highly qualified and specialised jobs.
