Rakuten and Telefónica launch entertainment app

September 16, 2021 10.25 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Rakuten and Telefónica have announced the launch of the Rakuten Living App on Movistar+.

As a result, Movistar Fusión users in 1.4 million homes that have the UHD decoder can now access a new digital experience that connects online entertainment with live events.

It allows them to discover on TV the schedule of live events and other entertainment activities in various Spanish cities such as Madrid, Malaga or Barcelona. In addition, tickets for events in other major European cities, including London or Berlin, can be purchased.

The Living App integrates with voice management through Aura, Telefónica’s AI virtual assistant. Furthermore, users can connect the app to their account on the Purchasing and Affiliate Platform at Rakuten.es.

Commenting on the launch, Cédric Dufour, MD of the Rakuten purchasing and affiliate platform, said: “Our goal is to create an innovative and customer-focused loyalty program. The key and differentiation is the combination of a high value product, unique offers and exclusive experiences for consumers.

“We are proud to collaborate with Telefónica. The Rakuten Living App allows Movistar + viewers to buy directly from their television and connect their digital experience with a variety of live events and leisure activities”.

Antonio Guzmán, director of the digital home of Telefónica’s Digital unit, added: “Our clients can learn, entertain themselves, exercise or buy through Movistar+ TV and all this from the comfort of their sofa. We are very happy to have Rakuten on board, it enriches our platform and customers will enjoy discovering and booking all kinds of exclusive activities”.
