Disney is to move content including IPL cricket from Hotstar to ESPN and Hulu in the United States.
It’s anticipated that Hotstar will then close for US audiences late in 2022.
Disney has 174 million paying customers across 4 streaming services, but is now looking to consolidate them into a Disney bundle. It means that sports events like the IPL will move to ESPN+ while drama and Bollywood movies will appear on Hulu.
However, there is a wide difference between the $49.99 per year paid for Hotstar and the $167.88 cost of a subscription to the Disney bundle. Disney is looking to mitigate this by offering Hotstar users in the United States a redemption code to move their subscriptions to the bundle at no cost.
