HBO Max will this autumn launch in the Nordics and Spain, followed by Central & East Europe and Portugal during 2022.
The details were revealed at a Series Mania Forum presentation in Lille, France, by Priya Dogra, president, WarnerMedia Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia (excluding China) and Christina Sulebakk, general manager, HBO Max EMEA.
Variety reported that for the first time all of the WarnerMedia brands including HBO, Max originals, DC, Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network would be available on the platform. This represents a step up from the current HBO Nordic service and a nod to the direction of fellow streaming services Disney+ and Discovery+.
Sulebakk is already running HBO’s direct-to-consumer streaming service in the Nordics, Spain, Portugal and other countries. These will be rebranded as HBO Max, though its likely the service will not appear until at least 2025 in the Sky markets of the UK, Germany and Italy due to existing output deals.
HBO Max launched in June across 39 territories in Latin America following its earlier launch in the United States.
